Evolve or perish

Visit IRCTo be successful in the current climate retailers must prove themselves to be adaptive, creative and brave enough to enact change when necessary. This year we’ll shake the industry and question well established retail concepts; equipping digital leaders with a platform to learn, network and continue developing their digital retail and multi-channel strategies.

In order to create a fully functional and successful retail machine there is no doubt that strategy between retail marketing professionals and fulfilment must be aligned. Both arms need to work in harmony and overcome their challenges together.

Whichever side your role focuses on, IRC will have it covered. This is not a programme for passive listeners - IRC is designed to make sure that delegates are fully involved in discussion and ideas sharing.

The approach in 2019

The approach was revolutionary, forward-facing and encourages creativity and innovation in retail.

Our content team researched the market, talked to retailer leaders, strategists and thought-leaders to ensure the programme was relevant, and met the needs of retailers today, and in the future.

It's why every year leaders from some of the UK's largest retailers return to be challenged, to find out what works, what doesn't, and to hear about new and innovative technology that is tried, tested and proven to increase online retail sales.

The tracks

Track 1

This track focused on growth and new markets, in the UK and overseas. We examined cross-border delivery, the use of marketplaces for international delivery and international returns, as well as the power of personalised content and using payments as a customer conversion tool for new markets.

Track 2

This track focused on customer engagement and loyalty. From creating an emotional connection online with your customer, subscription models and loyalty schemes, through to referral schemes and getting customers to become a proactive ambassador of your brand in the future.

Track 3

This track focused on the customer experience across all touch points. Including using AI for final mile accuracy, the single customer view, delivery and returns as well as tackling abandoned browsers and carts.

Track 4

This track focused on omnichannel and the changing dynamics between online and offline. It examined the relationship between physical, desktop and mobile, how click and collect will drive physical interactions and new innovative marketing strategies in the post-GDPR era.

Track 5

This track focused on tech enablers and innovation. It examined whether you should stay ahead of the market or keep up with the pack, it took a close look of real-world experiences online using VR, AR and Big Data, and saw how estimated data can predict customer behaviour and their buying patterns to increase sales.

Track 6

This track focused on customer expectations and giving them what they want. It examined how to replicate the personal magic touch online, as well as personalising the proposition, driving growth through mobile and how to create a competitive strategy to meet customer wants when it comes to delivery and returns.
